Frontex comes to Portugal

Overview

This talk will reflect upon border surveillance done jointly by Frontex and the European Maritime Safety Agency with drones produced by Portuguese company Tekever, in Ponte de Sor. Specifically, it will explore howw economic interests link up with racism and post-imperial relations in this particular case.

Bio note

Joerg Nowak is a Marie Curie postdoc fellow at the School of Politics and International Relations at University of Nottingham, and was a Visiting Assistant Professor at City University of Hong Kong. His latest book publication is Mass Strikes and Social Movements in Brazil and India (Palgrave, 2019). He works on labour in emerging economies and on logistics, infrastructure and security.
