About
Adequate food and nutrition are considered a priority Human Right by the United Nations Organisation (UNO). It is an enforceable and justiciable right, and hunger - the most serious expression of food insecurity - is the result of inequality in access to food. Considering the universality, indivisibility and interdependence of human rights, the guarantee of the full exercise of civil and political rights, as well as a democratic environment, are considered fundamental aspects for the realisation of the Human Right to Adequate Food and Nutrition (HRtAFN). Charity, although a noble motivation, does not meet the need for the adequate and mandatory formulation of public policies on food security and nutrition. In this context, the Judicial System has a fundamental role to play in guaranteeing this right.
