The Epistemologies of the South in the Sociology of Law: Can the law be post-abyssal?

September 12, 2018, 14h30

CIUL - Centro de Informação Urbana de Lisboa (Lisbon)

Overview

Epistemologies of the South as a set of procedures that seek to recognise and validate the knowledge produced by those who have suffered the injustices, oppression and domination caused by colonialism, capitalism and hetero-patriarchy, call for and challenge the role of law in its relationship with culture, intersubjectivities and social relations in the epistemological process. Thus, it is a question of discussing the possibility of a post-abyssal law as an alternative to the abyssal thinking of modern Western epistemology and its fragments and shortcomings.

Working session under the RCSL-SDJ Lisbon Meeting 2018 "Law and Citizenship Beyond The States" to be held at ISCTE-IUL (Lisbon) from September 10 to 13, 2018.
