Resumo

This seminar presents the recently increasing rap landscape in Latin America. In the last years, this kind of music has been successfully produced in all countries of the continent. In every region it has been able to express both a will for change and a different use of traditional discourses. Based on Benitez Rojo’s Repeating Island and on the examination of structures and lyrics, the lecture aims to analyse the reasons for the spread of rap in Latin America.
