Abstract

DNA technologies have become indispensable tools in the arsenal of modern criminal justice systems. Recent developments in DNA databases and scientific innovations anticipate the developments of a third wave of forensic genetics, which promises a farther reach into the informative potential of DNA, but also brings new societal, ethical, and regulatory challenges. Addressing these issues calls for an interdisciplinary dialogue on the challenges of forensic genetics.

Featuring internationally renowned forensic and social scientists, this conference offers an opportunity to approach the many aspects of the on-going debate in the EU. By critically examining the role of forensic genetics in surveillance apparatuses, the variety of perspectives and topics presented aim at creating a common for understanding current critical issues and anticipating future challenges.
