About

Within social science studies the impact of origin has been shown to be an important element in thinking about the life chances of many young people. From a life course approach in this seminar I show how origin, race and gender shape the experiences of young people of immigrant descent in Italy in their trajectories in work, education and housing. What can be seen is that experiences of discrimination throughout life at the institutional level and at the individual level create situations of uncertainty, exclusion and inequality. More than repeating the studies that show different experiences of discrimination of young people of immigrant descent, this seminar also shows the strategies that these young people use to deal with situations of uncertainty and precariousness. The practices of resistance from the agency of these young people interfere at the individual level and also at the social level.
