Comentary by Giovanni Allegretti (CES) and Fabio Merladet [TBC] (CES)
Since the Middle Ages, at the time linked to the Church, the university has undergone changes. If Modernity in the Humboldtian model favored pure and systematizing knowledge, the American multiversity brought, more recently, a new institution, which contextualizes knowledge and multiplies forms of action. Along the way, you can still cite the English tradition, of Newmanian inspiration, which advocates a university dedicated to the general culture, besides the Latin American currents, idealized from the Cordoba Movement, which support a university committed to social justice. How do these historical models influence the contemporary university? Would it be possible, in an opposite direction to the wave of liberal “University Mode 2”, which has influenced the Bologna Process , to defend another model, that of a “Participatory University”?
