Pathways to the dialogue between science and society

October 29, 2011, 14h00

CES-Lisbon, Picoas Plaza, Rua do Viriato 13, Lj. 117/118

Framework

Meeting organized by IBMC and CES aiming at casting a public reflection about ways of promoting new types of relationship between science and society. The event's first guest is Henk Mulder who will speak about the European network of science shops.

During the event, an experimental science shop will be launched in Portugal, called Biosense, expecting the accession of several institutions and volunteers. BIOSENSE aims at establishing a platform for dialogue, cooperation and partnership between universities, research centres, students, organizations and citizens seeking support to the resolution of problems of collective interest or the participation in innovative projects with social impact.

This initiative's goal is to develop action research projects, of collaborative nature, within the fields of life sciences, health and environment, aiming at the production of a knowledge which contributes toward the resolution of problems identified by the society.

In this event, several speakers will discuss the challenges faced by the interaction between scientists and lay citizens in the light of the science shops in Europe, as well as the possibilities of this new platform.
