Rethinking COVID-19 Vulnerability: A Call for LGTBQ+ Im/migrant Health Equity in the United States During and After a Pandemic

Nolan S. Kline

Health Equity

Overview

From an intersectional perspective, the article by Nolan S. Kline points out the pandemic that we currently live as a decisive moment, imposing on us the need to underline the political and social factors that build inequalities in access and maintenance of health. In addition to the vulnerabilities felt by the elderly, recognised as bodies and lives to be protected, LGBTQ+ individuals and migrant populations are exposed not only to the virus, but also to the matrix of violence that previously undermined their existence, from lack of housing and decent employment to treatment received in hospital space. Kline reflects on the roots and ramifications of these inequalities, pointing out the need for social solidarity and the urgency in implementing anti-discrimination policies for effective equity in health, during and beyond the pandemic.
