Maria Paula Meneses (Director)
Researcher coordinator at the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra, integrating the research group on Democracy, Citizenship and Law. She holds a PhD in Anthropology from Rutgers University (USA), and a master’s degree in History from Saint Petersburg University (Russia). She lectures in several PhD Programmes of CES, being the coordinator of the doctoral programme on Post-colonialisms and Global Citizenship.

Catarina Martins
Researcher at the Centre for Social Studies, Assistant Professor at the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures of the University of Coimbra and lecturer of Feminist Studies, Post-colonial Studies and Literature and Culture Studies. She holds a PhD degree in German Literature from the University of Coimbra (2008).

Daniela Nascimento
Researcher at the Centre for Social Studies and Assistant Professor of International Relations at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra (FEUC). She holds a PhD in International Politics and Conflict Resolution from the University of Coimbra, a master’s degree in Human Rights and Democratization from the Inter-European Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation of Venice and a bachelor’s degree from FEUC.

Graça Capinha
Associate Professor in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures, Section of Anglo-American Studies, at the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra and is also a researcher at the Centre for Social Studies. She holds a PhD in American Literature from the University of Coimbra.

Fernando Fontes
Sociologist. Holds a PhD in Sociology and Social Policy from the University of Leeds (United Kingdom), with the thesis "Social Citizenship and Collective Action: The Case of the Portuguese Disabled People's Movement" and a master’s degree in Sociology from the University of Coimbra (2006). Currently, he is a researcher at the Centre for Social Studies.

João Arriscado Nunes
Holds a PhD degree in Sociology from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra (FEUC). Full Professor of Sociology at FEUC, o-coordinator of the Doctoral Programme Governance, Knowledge and Innovation and researcher at the Centre for Social Studies. He also is a member of the Advisory Council of the Portuguese Sociological Association.

João Paulo Dias
Sociologist, master in Sociology of Law from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra, and Ph.D. in Sociology of Law at the same institution. He is currently Researcher and Executive Director of the Centre for Social Studies.

José António Bandeirinha
Architect from the Escola Superior de Belas-Artes of Porto (1983). Researcher at the Centre for Social Studies and Full Professor at the Department of Architecture of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra, where he completed his PhD in 2002.

Marta Araújo
Researcher integrating the Research Group on Democracy, Citizenship and Law at the Centre for Social Studies. Lectures in the Doctoral Programmes Democracy in the 21st Century and Human Rights in Contemporary Societies. She holds a PhD degree in Sociology of Education from the University of London (2003).

Nancy Duxbury
Researcher of "Cities, Cultures and Architecture" research group of the Centre for Social Studies. Co-coordinator of the project CREATOUR and Associate Professor at the School of Communication, Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, Canada, and at the School of Urban and Regional Planning, University of Waterloo, Canada. he holds a PhD in Communication and a master's in Publishing from Simon Fraser University.

Pedro Hespanha
Sociologist and Retired Professor at the Faculty of Economics of Coimbra. He is founding member of the Centre for Social Studies, where he coordinates the research group on Social Policies, Labour and Inequalities. His research and publishing areas integrate the Rural Studies, Social Policies, Sociology of Medicine, Poverty and Social Exclusion. He also coordinates the Study Group on Solidary Economy (ECOSOL/CES).
