Emicida in residence at CES/UC

The Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra hosts, for a period of three months, between 25 July and 21 October 2021, the artistic residence of Leandro Roque de Oliveira, artistically known as Emicida. The presence of the Brazilian author and performer takes place within the framework of the activities and projects that CES coordinates, namely the Popular University Commitment and Art, the Luso-Afro-Brazilian Congress of Social Sciences and the research projects KINDER and PARENT, coordinated by Tatiana Moura.  Emicida will participate in a diversified agenda of events that includes lectures, artistic interventions, roundtables and interviews. Taking into account  Emicida's work and public impact, from which we can highlight his recent documentary "AmarElo - É Tudo Pra Ontem", the artist residency will promote a transatlantic reflection and dialogue on the relationship between art, science and social transformation.

The invitation addressed to Emicida constitutes the pilot initiative of the "CES Artistic Residency", an "insurgent chair" proposed in 2021 within the framework of the activities of the Popular University Commitment and Art (UPEA-CES). This proposal aims to create an emblematic space for the articulation between research developed at CES and artistic creation with a public impact on the promotion of human rights, the affirmation of voices and languages neglected by academic culture and the strengthening of dialogues with social movements in Europe and the global South.
