Gender Equality and Sport in Portugal

This webinar aims to raise awareness of the ongoing disparities between women and men in the world of sports, to inform about the mission and responsibilities of the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality (CIG), and to present some of the public policy instruments that coordinate efforts to promote Gender Equality in Sports in Portugal.
It also aims to disseminate the most recent data collected under the “All In Plus” project: at the end of two years of research and data collection, the “All In Plus” project, jointly promoted by the Council of Europe and the European Commission, recently released a comprehensive analytical report evaluating gender equality in European sport.

Maria João Filipe | Senior technician at IPDJ, I.P., where she is part of the working groups “Gender Equality in Sport” and “Protection of Children and Youth in Sport.” National co-coordinator of the joint Council of Europe and European Union project “All IN Plus: Promoting Greater Gender Equality in Sport.” She has worked as a sports manager at the World Games of Sport for All in Lisbon, was responsible for a sports software program in Portugal (SportLoMo), served as sports director at the Portuguese Swimming Federation, and has also worked as a Physical Education teacher and fitness trainer in gyms. She played volleyball for 20 years and was part of the National Team. She holds an Executive Master in Management of Sports Organizations (MEMOS) from the University of Poitiers, a European Master in Exercise and Health, and a Bachelor's degree in Sports Science from the Faculty of Human Kinetics (FMH).
Isabel Filipe Cruz | Senior technician at the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality (CIG), where she oversees, within the scope of the National Strategy for Equality and Non-Discrimination (ENIND) and the Action Plan for Equality between Women and Men (PAIHM), the areas of education, sport, and youth. In 2022, she joined the Working Group on Public Policies on Equality in Sport, which presented the 2023 Report on Gender Equality in Sport in Portugal. She is part of the team that developed three editions of the “New Leaderships” Training and Mentoring Program promoted by the Portuguese Olympic Committee, serves on the jury for the Desporto + Igual Award, and is part of the jury for the Equality in Sport Seal, both promoted by IPDJ. She holds a degree in Dance from the Faculty of Human Kinetics and worked for over 20 years at the Seixal City Council in the Support Program for the development of Physical Education in Primary Education and in monitoring educational projects aimed at schools. She was part of the multidisciplinary team “From Equal to Equal,” created under the Seixal Municipal Plan for Equality and Non-Discrimination.
