A critical tour of Peruvian Amazonian indigenous visual arts will be presented since their emergence in Lima at the end of the last century. We will note how the themes developed by the artists move between visual narratives of an ethnographic nature, which dialogue with anthropology, to others that affirm and claim a place for their epistemes subalternised by the hegemonic systems that sustain art. The crossroads that Amazonian indigenous peoples face when integrating exhibitions, fairs and biennials and other platforms of circulation of the liberal multiculturalism that sustains the global system of contemporary art, will be discussed.

Bio note

María Eugenia Yllia is an art historian, curator and museologist. She is a PhD candidate in Art History from UNMSM and holds a Master's degree in Museology from Universidad Ricardo Palma. She is a professor of the Master in Art with a mention in Latin American Art at UNMSM, the Master in Art History and Curatorship at PUCP and the Master in Museology and Cultural Management at URP. Her research reflects on non-Western visualities, the construction of colonised alterities in Amazonian imaginaries and the tensions between art and anthropology. Likewise, she has focused on the study of plants, animals and other entities from which indigenous epistemologies expressed in their visual culture and contemporary arts are enunciated.
