About

The workers’ training in Brazil has been the object of disputes since the beginning of the 20th century. At the same time, basic education in the country has undergone various changes aimed at the literacy and intellectual education of the Brazilian population, but not without reflecting the conflicts of interest between the classes involved. The fact is that in 2008 the Federal Network of Professional, Scientific and Technological Education was reorganised and the Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology were created. In the guidelines that define their conception, it is explicit that, in these institutions, the integral education of students is sought. This dimension of education transcends the mere preparation of the individual for pragmatic performance in the world of work, and seeks the training of citizens developed in their general intellectual, technical and cultural capacities. Thus, in this seminar, we will reflect on the teaching of Solidarity Economy to EMI students and its potential to contribute to the education of critical citizens engaged with their social environment.
