Synopsis
Carretera Cartonera is a road trip and a documentary on the road, discovering Cartoneras Publishing Houses in Latin America: cooperatives and groups of people who come together to make books, binding them with cardboard. The card is usually bought from “cartoneros”, people who collect it from the streets and sell it for a living.
There are hundreds of Cartonera publishers in Latin America, from Chile to Mexico, but also in other parts of the world. A large network that connects different realities thanks to a common sense of social redemption, encouraging new authors and selling books at a low price.
In January and February 2015, the authors traveled by 5 countries, on foot or by bus, 7532 km, visiting São Paulo, Buenos Aires, Santiago de Chile and Montevideo; through the Pampas, the Andes and the River Plate, telling inside the reality of the Publishers they encountered during the trip.
