Workshop | Roundtable of Knowledges III

Researching Science: Communication between languages, discourses and cultures.

17 June 2021, 02:30pm-05:h30 (GMT +01:00)

Online > Registration open

Overview

This Wheel of Knowledges workshop aims to bring to discussion different methodological approaches and landscapes which one can creatively and critically apply as meta-reflections and self-analyses about the structures and processes of collaboration in the production of scientific knowledge, as well as, about the exchange between different types of knowledge. The facilitators will present different perspectives and problematics pertaining to the field of “research-on-research”. They will address: the collaboration between different institutional partners, namely between the public and the private, academics, participants and technicians, and between disciplines and interdisciplinary areas, emphasising the epistemic cultures and the modes of knowledge production; the balances of power between institutional, collective, and individual discourses; the plurilingual and the interculturality of knowledge production in the context of intra and transnational research.

The discussion of these themes will approach questions such as:

-Is there an operational potential (as well as impediments or difficulties) in the collaboration between academic and non-academic stakeholders? Do we have ‘Science in Society’ and/or ‘Society in Science’? Can we talk about Mode-1 and Mode-2 of knowledge production?

-How can one manage the ‘power regimes’ in science and about science? What are the academic tribes and territories? What cultures? What epistemic cultures?

-Does linguistic and cultural diversity enrich or impoverish scientific production? And knowledge production? Is it possible/desirable to have communication and intercultural training in scientific research?

As such, we request participants to send us, until the 11th of June, a brief presentation of themselves and of their research work to the e-mail address of the Cycle of Methodologies Wheel of Knowledges: rodadesaberes@ces.uc.pt

Note: This workshop is limited to 18 participants, accepted by order of registration.

This workshop is organised under the Cycle of Methodologies Wheel of Knowledges

This session will be facilitated by Maria Manuela Guilherme e Sofia Branco Sousa (CES)
