Ronaldo Cagiano was born in Cataguases, Minas Gerais, graduated in Law and was a banker at Caixa Econômica Federal, having lived 28 years in Brasilia and 10 years in São Paulo and is based in Portugal. He collaborates, writing reviews and articles in several newspapers and journals in Brazil and abroad. He debuted with Palavra engajada (poetry, 1989) and among his published works, are the following: Dezembro indigesto (short stories - Brasília de Produção Literária 2001 Award), Dicionário de pequenas solidões (short stories, Ed. Língua Geral, Rio, 2006), Moenda de silêncios ( in partnership with Whisner Fraga, Ed. Dobra, SP, 2012), O sol nas feridas (Poetry, Ed. Fred Maia was born in Oeiras, Piauí, in 1956. He graduated in journalism and is a PhD researcher in Sociology of Culture, at Universidade Nova de Lisboa. A professional with vast experience in the formulation and administration of public policies in the areas of social assistance, health, education and culture. He worked as a national articulation manager and special advisor to the cabinet of Ministers Gilberto Gil and Juca Ferreira, at the Ministry of Culture. He published Um Rock por Nada (Editora Arte Pau Brasil, São Paulo); eupor (Editora Nômades, São Paulo); Mais que imperfeito (Ame o Poema Editora, Porto Alegre) and the essay Plínio Marcos: A crônica dos que não têm voz (Boitempo Editora, São Paulo), in partnership with Vinicius Pinheiro and Javier Contreras. Fred Maia is a poet, lyricist and has lived in Almada since 2012.

Boaventura de Sousa Santos is Emeritus Professor of Sociology, University of Coimbra (Portugal), and Distinguished Legal Scholar at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is Director Emeritus of the Center for Social Studies at the University of Coimbra. He earned an LL.M and J.S.D. from Yale University and holds the Degree of Doctor of Laws, Honoris Causa, by McGill University. His most recent project - ALICE: Leading Europe to a New Way of Sharing the World Experiences - was funded by an Advanced Grant of the European Research Council (ERC), one of the most prestigious and highly competitive international financial institutes for scientific excellence in Europe (http://alice.ces.uc.pt/en/). He has written and published widely on the issues of globalization, sociology of law and the state, epistemology, social movements and the World Social Forum in Portuguese, Spanish, English, Italian, French, German, Chinese, Danish, Romanian and Polish.

Poetry writing has always accompanied the work of the academic and public intellectual, having debuted with Antologia de poesia universitária (Lisbon: Portugal, 1962).
