Hearing Voices
Hearing Voices merges mental health activism, scientific research and artistic creation about the experience of hearing voices that other people do not hear. Hearing Voices is a project by Marionet – Associação Cultural in partnership with the Hearing Voices Movement - Portugal, the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra (CES) and Rádio Aurora- a Outra Voz, (Júlio de Matos Hospital). It intends to address the phenomenon of hearing voices (VO) artistically, portraying its meaning, sensory perception, changes throughout life, periods of crisis, but also those of alternative, its place in a narrative of oneself and by exploring ways in which voices can act as important social, cultural and political forces. The main objective is to learn about this complex phenomenon in order to create a theatre play and a sound installation. This brings this diversity centre stage, so that we can approach the experience of hearing voices as a bearer of meaning and not of fear.
