Scope
The relationship between research and action has been marking the working practice of CES since its beginning, distinguished by a strong component of participatory and collaborative research - research on, in and with society. This critical and reflexive dialogue has promoted and maintained various relationships both internally, among its researchers, and with external people, communities and organisations. It is from this dynamic of interdisciplinary research committed to society that a new field of work has been developed, specifically dedicated to the promotion of this mode of producing knowledge. The concept of engaged citizen social science arises in this context, seeking to bring together two areas of work: citizen social science and the ecology of knowledges. This concept emerges from the reflection on the matrix of the work carried out at the CES, based on the concepts of Ecology of knowledges and Citizen Social Science (1).

The Working Group on Citizen Science and Education - CC.Edu - was created to create a work space to consolidate the already existing knowledge on the development of citizen social science projects and to allow its expansion to a more engaged dimension, in close connection with educational communities. CC.Edu will thus aggregate people interested in the study and applications of the concept of engaged citizen social science in education.

By enabling the encounter between different knowledge and experiences, CC.Edu aims to consolidate the production of knowledge related to citizen science in the areas of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts in educational contexts, including theoretical reflections on its impacts on the different agents involved and on educational processes.

Areas of action
This Working Group aims at developing a regular space for joint reflection and sharing of experiences about the connection and articulation between research in the areas of social sciences, humanities and arts and different educational contexts, favouring the creation of educational communities that bring together researchers, teachers, students and other agents involved in educational contexts.

All the activities of CC.Edu will be developed at CES, in a transversal way, seeking to maintain partnerships with the Thematic Lines, the Observatory of Education and Training Policies, the extension programmes Ciência Viva at CES and CES goes to School, as well as with ongoing research projects. We will also try to work in close collaboration with partner school institutions and with other people or institutions with interest and work in the relevant themes for this working group.
