Rui Feijó


Born in Braga (1954). Attended primary school in Lousada (1961-65), secondary school in Porto (1965-72), read History at the University of Coimbra (1972-78) obtained a D.Phil in Modern History in Oxford (1984)and In the title of "Agregado" in "Democracy in the 21st Century" at the University of Coimbra (2017). Also attended the General Course on Management, University of Porto (1991-92) He is a member of CES since 2011, being part of the DECIDe thematic nucleus. After he integrated CES, he has devoted most of his attention to the history, society and politics of Timor-Leste, embracing a comparative perspective. He was responsible for the research project "The Birth of a Democratic Nation: Timor-Leste after 1999" (FCT/SFRH/BPD/71230/2010 - 2011-2017) and co-responsible for "Cohabitations: dynamics of power in Lautém(Timor-Leste)".(FCT/CS-ANT/118150/2010 - 2012-2015), Presently he leads the project "The Self-determination of Timor-Leste: a study in Transnational History(FCT/PDTC/HAR-HIS/30670/2017 - from 2018 2018) In parallel, he has developed several studies on democracy and political systems both in Portugal and Timor-Leste He is a member of the board of AIA-SEAS - Ibero American Association for the Study of Southeast Asia and of EuroSEAS - European Association for Southeast Asia Studies He has been a visiting scholar at Oxford University (St Antony's 1998, 2014; Nuffield 2012) and member of Lincoln College Common Room (since 1997)
