Biography

Neide P. Areia is a contracted and associate researcher at the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra, under the Portuguese Scientific Employment Stimulus Programme - Individual Call (CEEC-IND). She holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology and develops interdisciplinary research in the field of risk sciences, with a particular focus on natural and hybrid risks (e.g., coastal erosion, extreme weather events) and emerging anthropogenic risks (e.g., cybercrime). She currently coordinates the FCT-funded project iCOAST - Innovation Ecosystems for Climate Resilience in High-Risk Coastal Communities, and leads CES's participation in the European project CoastARTS. Both projects converge in the promotion of integrated coastal management strategies, fostering the development of social innovation initiatives aimed at risk adaptation. She also co-coordinates the European project 6G-VERSUS - 6G Vertical Trials for Sustainability, which focuses on the sociotechnical impact assessment of emerging digital technologies, with a particular emphasis on the development and application of the future 6G ecosystem. Neide co-coordinates the Doctoral Programme in Territory, Risk and Public Policies (University of Coimbra, University of Lisbon, University of Aveiro), is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra, and an external lecturer at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the same university. Since 2020, she has produced around 30 scientific outputs, including a dozen peer-reviewed articles published in international journals recognised in the fields of risk governance, participatory policy, and environmental management. Her academic path is marked by growing international visibility, combining thematic consistency, social relevance, and methodological rigour.
