Manuel João Cruz


Biography

Manuel João Cruz holds a PhD in Communication Sciences and is an invited Assistant Professor at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), as well as a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre for Social Studies (CES) of the University of Coimbra, where he is affiliated with the thematic line Democracy, Justice and Human Rights. At CES, he was part of the project UNPOP: UNpacking POPulism: Comparing the formation of emotion narratives and their effects on political behaviour, now concluded, and currently collaborates in the project CO3 - COntinuous COnstruction of resilient social COntracts through societal transformations. His research has focused on populism, political communication, narratives, and affects, with a particular interest in the relationship between media, democracy, and the discursive construction of the political.
