Rui Namorado
30.04.1941 - 13.01.2025
Rui Namorado was a tireless thinker, a committed intellectual, and a militant advocate for causes.
The work he left us is incredibly rich and spans many diverse domains: from cooperative law to social policies, from education to civic intervention, from poetry and essays to his belief in solidarity and mutual aid. From academic struggles, restless militancy, parliamentary debates, and his participation in Republic institutions, this belief always converged in perspectives that enhanced the socialist vision of the world and in defense of freedom and democracy, whether through open criticism of authoritarian powers and cronyism or through a persistent attitude of hope in the future and in a collectively forged social transformation.
In the academic area, Rui Namorado was and will continue to be a national and international reference in studies on cooperativism and social economy, both for his scientific production and training in these two areas, and for the mark he left on the legislation that regulates them.
His work developed at CES, before and after the creation of the Centre for Cooperative Studies at the Faculty of Economics, inspired many young researchers and stimulated a fruitful exchange of knowledge between scholars of "other economies" that oppose the liberal economy.
