Joel Gomes


Biography

Joel Filipe Almeida Gomes was born in Porto, Portugal, in 1986. Initially, seeked Communication Design attending the Technological Course in Serafim Leite High School [ESSL] in São João da Madeira, from 2001 to 2004, former industrial school whose workshops used for the mechanical course that his father attended were converted for the artistic course precisely in the year he was admitted. Later, pursued Architecture in the Department of Architecture of the School of Arts of the University of Évora [DARQ-EAUE] starting the bachelorship and finishing the master, from 2004 to 2010, having been in the Technical High School of Architecture of the University of Granada [ETSAG], between 2007 and 2008, fulfilling the European Student Exchange Program 'Erasmus', in a complementary training between South Iberian cities. Returns to his birthplace city of Porto, to start an internship in the architectural studio Menos é Mais | Cristina Guedes + Francisco Vieira de Campos, from 2011 to 2012, and simultaneously accomplish the mandatory internship for the admission to the Portuguese Association of Architects [OA], to which is a member since January 2012. Afterwards, in the insular context of Funchal, sought to consolidate his professional experience in the architectural studio Paulo David, from 2012 to 2015. Concluded the Advanced Studies of the Doctoral Program in Architecture 'CoimbraStudio' at the Department of Architecture of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra [DARQ-FCTUC], between October 2015 and June 2016. Since then, has been developing a doctoral thesis regarding the theme of "Archaic" in relation to the architecture of Peter Zumthor and in particularly regarding his two built chapels dedicated to Sogn Benedetg and Bruder Klaus.
