About
This seminar is part of the seminar series taking place in the scope of the research project IPHinLAW - Intimate partner homicide: challenges to the law, which seeks to critically think about the law in its relation to gender, sexuality and violence against women.

The seminar will focus on critcally thinking the role of law, namely criminal law, in domestic violence, having as starting point cases that ended in murder (attempted or completed)

 

Bio notes
Rui do Carmo | Retired Public Prosecutor. Coordinator of the Retrospective Analysis of Homicide in Domestic Violence Team (since 2017). Coordinator of the Multidisciplinary Technical Commission for the Improvement of Prevention and Combating Domestic Violence (2019). Served as a Public Prosecutor for 32 years in various districts of the country, in the criminal and family and minors areas, and in the Coimbra District Attorney General's Office - having retired in 2016. Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the University of Coimbra (since 2013). Lecturer of the masters' in Judicial Law and in Family, Children and Succession Law at the Law School of the University of Minho (since 2007). Member and teacher in training courses at the Family Law Centre of the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra (since 1998). Teacher at the Centre for Judicial Studies from 1997 to 2001 and assistant director from 2001 to 2004 and 2010 to 2011. He has published various studies in the areas of criminal law and criminal procedural law, family and children's law, and judicial communication and language.

Researcher at the Research Centre of the Institute of Criminal Law and Criminal Sciences of the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon (CIDPCC-IDPCC-FDUL). Member of the Superior Council of Magistracy. Member of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI), which works under the scope of the Council of Europe. Member of the Commission for Equality Against Racial Discrimination (CICDR), which functions within the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. Member of the Consultative Council of the Unit for Penal Reform. Lawyer
