The struggles of indigenous peoples in Brasil

July 10 to 15, 2014

CES-Coimbra

Abstract

The exhibition “The struggles of indigenous peoples in Brasil” portrays the coming of seven indigenous leaders to Coimbra, from different ethnicities (Guajajara, Maya, Macuxi, Tukano, Taurepang and Yanomami), in order to visit the Center for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra. They took part in the international colloquium “Territory, Interculturality and Buen-Vivir: the struggles of indigenous peoples in Brasil” promoted by ALICE Project on 24 June 2014.

It was the first time that such a big and diversified indigenous delegation came to Portugal in order to share, with activists and researchers, their struggles and ways of living, in opposition to a neoextrativist model of development. The exhibition will be open from 10 to 21 July, in the Center for Social Studies, on the second floor.
