The CES research group Risk(s), Ecology(s) and Health (RISE) is organising the Colloquium New Generations, Risks and Vulnerabilities to promote a generational dialogue on different areas of social concern.  The event, which will take place on 6 December at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra, will include the participation of internal and external academics and arts and culture.

At the same time, the RISE UP! photography exhibition will be installed at FEUC and will raise a mural of expression and demands, bringing - to the University’s “wall” - the risks and vulnerabilities that permeate the bodies, communities and places we inhabit. The environment, climate change, health, ageing, loneliness, racism, inequality, vulnerability, violence and technology are just some of the themes that can shape this exhibition, using art as a form of resistance and struggle, leveraging change.

We, therefore, challenge anyone interested to share their vision of what they see as risks and vulnerabilities by sending us a photograph. Fifteen photographs will be selected for physical exhibition at FEUC, and the rest will be projected. All the images will also be hosted in a permanent digital gallery on the RISE research group Colloquium page.

In addition to exhibiting the selected photographs and screening the others, a Diploma for the Best Photograph and two Honourable Mentions will be awarded (announced and presented at the opening and guided tour of the exhibition on 6 December 2024). The evaluation and decision will be made by the exhibition curators in dialogue with the Colloquium’s organising committee.

Rules
Please note that it is forbidden to exhibit images identifying faces or people without their informed consent. Photographs that do not fulfil this requirement will be excluded.

Sending the photographs
Each author must send only one (1) photograph in colour or black and white. The photograph must be sent in digital format, accompanied by a title, date, name or pseudonym, age and profession of the author, by 15 November 2024, to riseup@ces.uc.pt.

The authors distinguished and/or selected for the exhibition will be informed via the same email address.

Organisers: Risk(s), Ecology(s) and Health Research Group (RISE) of the Centre for Social Studies (CES) of the University of Coimbra (UC), in partnership with the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra (FEUC).
