About

This roundtable, in a Chatam House format, and with exclusive participation by invitation, aims to debate the contribution of international missions to the promotion of peace and security, emphasising the Portuguese case. The aim is to understand what kind of peace and security has been produced through international missions and to reflect on the possibilities and limits of this instrument. The emphasis on the Portuguese case will also allow us to debate the processes, objectives, priorities and strategies that have marked Portugal's participation in international missions since the 1990s, but also the endogenous and exogenous constraints and opportunities that arise in this dimension, and, finally, how dividends and lessons learned relevant to the national interest and to the production of international security are generated.

This roundtable is organised within the scope of the FEUC's Jean Monnet Centre for Excelence, coordinated by Maria Raquel Freire, in collaboration with the Centre for Social Studies, under the activities of the project "Portugal's participation in international missions: the contribution of the National Defense Policy to the national interest and the production of international security", coordinated by Vanda Amaro Dias and funded by the Ministry of National Defence.
