About

Canhão de Boca, by Ângelo Lopes is a documentary under the CPLP Audiovisual Programme, produced by O2 Cape Verde.

In the context of the liberation struggle of Guinea Bissau and Cape Verde, Amilcar Cabral used the expression "Cannon of Mouth" to refer to the Liberation Radio as a weapon more powerful than any arsenal of war they could possess.

From the Cape Verdean experience, but with a look at the world, the documentary "Canhão de Boca" fictionalizes a radio programme with Amélia Araújo, one of the voices of the Liberation Radio that gave form to the programmes of diffusion of the ideals of the struggle between 1964 and 1973; and Rosário da Luz, a voice that incorporates critical information as a struggle for contemporary deconstruction in Cape Verde. Their struggles are peculiar to each time, but they are, in their essence, common struggles.

Why do we fight today? One of the greatest philosophical legacies of the struggle for independence is the principle that in order to be free we must think for ourselves. For this, it is essential to combat any type of colonialism and our subjugation to it.

This documentary singles out radio, a means of communication and expression linked to the voice, as a vehicle for the contemporary discussion around the utopia of freedom. From possible confrontations, the relations that the viewer reconstructs from his own thinking are of interest.

Celeste Fortes, who participated in the production of the documentary as a researcher, will comment on the film and participate in the debate.
