ISII - Incubadora Social de Investigação e Inovação [Social Incubator for Research and Innovation], coordinated by the Centre for Social Studies, in partnership with the University of Coimbra (UC) and the UC Faculty of Economics, took part in the regional meeting of the Centro Region, which brought together the region's social incubators supported under the Funding Instrument Instrumento de Financiamento Centros para o Empreendedorismo de Impacto (Portugal Inovação Social, PT2030).

The event brought together 14 incubators with different identities, territories and objectives, but all identified as operations of strategic importance by the CENTRO 20230 Programme. The regional meeting enabled the establishment of networks and synergies between the different Incubators around a common goal: boosting local development and transforming communities.

ISII is a project geared towards solving social problems, aimed at citizens and organisations in the social and solidarity economy, as well as academic and scientific communities in the fields of social sciences, humanities and the arts. It aims to give communities the opportunity to develop social innovation projects that respond to specific social needs in the territories of Coimbra and Cantanhede, and in close co-creation with social economy organisations, thus contributing to the construction of social projects capable of creating real value in society and enhancing the co-production of knowledge in the areas of social sciences and humanities.

This Academic Incubator aims to promote links between social innovation, research and university teaching. It is based on the creation of: a space for co-learning (between research and pedagogy), a space for co-production (interaction between knowledge and between academia and communities) and a space for co-expansion (networking and replicability of the academic incubator model in the social sciences and humanities).
