Results of the ENGENDER project
March 2021 - September 2024
The research project «ENGENDER | Gender mainstreaming in curricula and pedagogical practices in Portuguese Public Universities», which took place at the Centre for Social Studies between March 2021 and September 2024, set out to determine the place occupied by the Women's, Gender, Feminist Studies (WGFS) in the different disciplinary fields, investigating how it is being integrated into curricula and pedagogical practices and its impact as perceived by those involved in them.
To meet this objective, the research looked beyond the titles of study programmes and curricular units to the integration of the gender perspective into teaching content and published research.
The following dimensions were at the centre of the analysis:
1. Political-institutional strategies developed over the last 4 decades;
2. Analysed study plans in force at higher education institutions (universities and polytechnics, public and private);
3. Curricula and teaching practices;
4. Published research with a gender perspective and national affiliation.
ENGENDER’s research team believes that the work carried out has resulted in an important contribution to making higher education in Portugal more gender-sensitive, improving its effectiveness for those who work in it and for those who seek educational development.
To this end, the results of the various studies carried out as part of ENGENDER are available in various formats:
