CES in times of crisis

18 march 2020

The Centre for Social Studies (CES), in consonance with the University of Coimbra, is adopting all emergency measures made inevitable by the COVID-19 pandemics. CES’ researchers carry on with their work, adapting to the new situation, and the administrative services, although, for the most part, working remotely, guarantee all full institutional activities.

The facilities are closed, except for those persons that are essential for running computer services. All contacts should be established by email, using the addresses of the various offices and of all researchers available at CES’ website.

The North-South library carries on with its support to all researchers, promoting access to digital publications and providing all information needed for the prosecution of research.

Teaching activities in the framework of the doctoral programmes is under restructuration on the basis of online communication media, through different platforms now in use; e-learning courses are taking place and will be pursued as foreseen; new offers in the field of e-learning are being prepared, while some courses are being converted into an e-learning format.

Since all face-to-face activities have been cancelled, the organization of scientific events is adapting to new forms of online communication. Soon, various activities providing the possibility of online participation will be announced. All events scheduled for a time after the foreseeable end of current restrictions will take place as planned, deadlines for enrollment having been postponed.

CES’ webpage remains a vital communication tool and will strengthen its presence with new features and actualizations on a regular basis, that will also be available at the social networks Facebook ans Twitter.

In times that are very difficult for people and institutions, the vast CES community resists, maintains its dynamics and preserves intact the working ties and the relations of solidarity of which it has every reason to be proud of.
