About

Since 2005, CES has organised an Annual Series of Conferences to become acquainted with, reflect on and discuss research produced inside and outside Portugal by young social scientists. At the root of this series stands the desire to promote interdisciplinary dialogue based on work produced in other institutions. To this end, we have been able to count on the contribution of some of the most promising young social scientists, who have been joined by actors with different backgrounds. Thus, meetings have been held with people from various areas and academic institutions and from different civil society organisations.

The 16th edition of this event is centred on current themes of research in the Social Sciences, linking some of the research lines historically developed by CES with the work currently carried out by young researchers. While the previous edition of the event reflected around the professional issues that condition young researchers, especially the precariousness around the careers in research in Science, in the present edition a reflection is proposed on the actuality and future of the great scientific themes in the Social Sciences.

Thus, the different presentations will focus on issues such as capitalism, crisis and alternatives; challenges to the Rule of Law; the historical relations between Europe and the Global South; risks, ecology and climate crisis; urban cultures and emerging sociabilities.
In order to promote an interdisciplinary and interinstitutional dialogue, the event will also be commented by young CES researchers, with the aim of generating a space for discussion and mutual learning, reinforcing the important role played by Young Social Scientists in interpreting and responding to the multiple crises we are going through.
