The World of Work in Debate: Trends, Powers and Protagonists
June 7, 2017, 09h30
CIUL - Centro de Informação Urbana de Lisboa
Abstract
Under the influence of dominant neoliberalism, the dynamics of the labour market and the options of political power have promoted in the last decades a set of measures that caused violent impacts on working conditions and rights of the working class, leaving trade union organizations under heavy pressure. More recently, the austerity policies adopted in Southern Europe produced diverse implications in the labour field, not only in its organizational patterns but also in their protagonists.
Under this context, the International Seminar 'THE WORLD OF WORK IN DEBATE: TRENDS, POWERS AND PROTAGONISTS' invites all speakers and participants to discuss the main trends in industrial relations in Europe and to respond to the following question: what powers are still left to trade unions and what strategies are they developing in order to (re)value their role in defending the right to work and labour rights?
The seminar will take place under the REB-Unions project/Rebuilding trade union power in the age of austerity: a review of three sectors”, Refª: PTDC/IVC-SOC/3533/2014 - POCI-01-0145-FEDER-016808).
The seminar will be in Portuguese, English and German and will have simultaneous translation
