With this Advanced Training Course, we propose to reflect in depth on the persistence of racism in its various configurations in contemporary democratic societies, as well as to analyse the alternatives proposed for combating it that have emerged historically in various contexts from the initiative of social movements. Considering the centrality of education in the struggles against racism, this third edition of the Course focuses on the recent public and academic discussions around the history and memory of colonialism and slavery, with particular emphasis on their interconnection with research and debates within the teaching of history.

By favouring qualitative and participatory methodologies, the course aims to offer an opportunity to gain advanced knowledge through interdisciplinary and comparative approaches, to acquire critical analytical tools to interpret the main public debates, and to engage with recent proposals by artists, activists and educators to re-imagine the memory and the teaching of the history of slavery, colonialism and their legacies.
