Februrary 2020

Portuguese journalist Sofia Rodrigues, one of the winners of the XXXVII edition of the King of Spain International Journalism Awards, in the category “Environmental Journalism and Sustainable Development”, told Agência EFE that «the awarded work is a condemnation of neocolonialism” and stressed the importance of the prize for “drawing worldwide attention” on the issue. »

Speaking to EFE after receiving news of the award, «the journalist explained that the work, entitled “Terra de todos, terra de alguns", was prepared not only by her but by a group of professionals who spent a month in northern Mozambique collecting oral testimonies.

Published in the online magazine "Divergente", which focuses on narrative and independent journalism, in the "Público" newspaper and on Rádio Televisão de Portugal (RTP), the objective of the award-winning multimedia journalistic work, she stressed, is to give visibility to the fact that companies all over the world colonize fertile land with cheap labour.»

Sofia da Palma Rodrigues holds a degree in journalism from Universidade Nova de Lisboa and a student at the Post-Colonialisms and Global Citizenship Doctoral Programme at the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra.
