Boaventura de Sousa Santos, CES director, has been awarded with the prestigious Adam Podgórecki Award, attributed by the International Association of Sociology for his worldwide contribution for the development of sociology of law.
The award, created in 2004, distinguishes alternately researchers of outstanding scientific merit and young researchers in the field of sociology of law.
The awarding ceremony took place the 9th of July during the Annual Meeting of the Research in Sociology of Law Committee for the International Association of Sociology, in Oñati, Spain.
Boaventura de Sousa Santos is Full Professor at the School of Economics, University of Coimbra, and Distinguished Legal Scholar at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Global Legal Scholar at the University of Warwick. Is Director of the Centre for Social Studies of the School of Economics, University of Coimbra and the 25 de Abril Documentation Centre of the University of Coimbra. His research has focused on studies on epistemology, sociology of law, post-colonial theory, democracy, interculturality, globalization, social movements, human rights. His books have been published in Portuguese, English, Italian, German and French.
