Abstract
In its 4th edition, the Doctoral Programme "Territory, Risk and Public Policies", a joint initiative of the Universities of Coimbra, Lisbon and Aveiro, holds its inaugural lecture on the theme "Forest Fires and Personal Safety", given by Domingos Xavier Viegas, Faculty of Sciences and Technology, University of Coimbra.
Bio
Domingos Xavier Viegas hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico and a Doctoral degree in Aerodynamics from the University of Coimbra. Since 1992 he is Full Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Coimbra.
In 1990 he founded the Association for the Development of Industrial Aerodynamics (ADAI), which is a research unit recognized by the Foundation for Science and Technology, integrated in the Associate Laboratory for Energy, Transport and Aeronautics. Under the ADAI heads the Center for Studies on Forest Fires (CEIF), for research, advanced training and services in the management of forest fires. He coordinated the participation of CEIF team in a large number of projects funded by national and European organizations, in collaboration with various scientific and operational institutions. He is director of the Laboratory of Studies on Forest Fires.
Since 1986 his research focuses on theme of Forest Fires (specialty Natural Hazards and Safety).
He has authored a great number of articles in international journals and mentored several graduate works on Forest Fires.
