Biographic Note
Mariana Mortágua is a brilliant young economist integrated within the new critical approaches to political economy. By listening to her, we get another reading of the current crisis and understand the main factors which caused it.
«Governments and political decision-makers used the markets, as abstract entity, an almost omniscient deity, to transfer the responsibility for their political choices. Who is in charge pays, but those who pay have no face, address or complaints book. Very convenient. But who is in charge of those who pay? Markets, ruthless predators, were configured by the liberal governments in power, those same governments that created the rule which prevents the European Central Bank from issuing a public debt or from buying it directly from the States. »
