The (Re)Securitisation of Russia: the Baltic States and the EU

Abstract
This guest-lecture will discuss dynamics of securitization and resecuritization in Russian relations with the Baltic States and the EU seeking to shed light on common grounds for improvement in relations, as well as understanding differences in approaches and actions. The Copenhagen School theoretical apporaches will be at the basis of the argument.

Sandra Fernandes. Professor at the University of Minho. PhD in Multilateralism and EU-Russia relations: the praxis for a competitive cooperation (Sciences Po Paris, 2010). Distinguished with the Jacques Delors Award in 2005 for her research on relations between the European Union and Russia, particularly its political and security dimensions. Author of several publications including: “EU Policies towards Russia, 1999-2007: Realpolitik Intended” in N. Tocci (ed.), “Competing for Eurasia: Russia and European Union Perspectives”, in coauthorship with L. Simão in R. Freire and R. Kanet (eds.), Russia in Eurasia: External Player and Regional Dynamics (Palgrave Macmillan, 2010)
