Overview

In Brazil, the social markers of differences leverage current bipartisan discussions about the literary performance of black authors in countries that have gone through colonisation processes. The historical absence of a context of representativeness and proportionality of nonwhite voices in academic and literary spaces has sparked a heated debate about the craft of writing, based on the pyramid of racial and gender oppression and the overcoming process of broken identities. In this light, the work and trajectory of the black, poor and favelada author, that became worldwide known in the 1960´s, and who even had her book "Quarto de despejo: diário de uma favelada " forbidden by Salazar in Portugal. There are many Carolinas de Jesus in Brazil, materialized in the presence of several black, indigenous or mestizo women facing the daily challenges of re-existing in a constant movement of modernity in non-modernity.
