Who can apply

The following are eligible to apply to this study cycle leading to a doctor degree:
1. Master's degree holders or legal equivalent;
2. Undergraduate degree holders with a particularly relevant academic of scientific curriculum, recognized as attesting the capacity for attending this study cycle;
3. Academic, scientific or professional curriculum holders, recognized Scientific as attesting the capacity for attending this study cycle.

The accreditation referred to in points 2) and 3) of the preceding number merely allows the access to a study cycle leading to a doctor degree and does not confer its holder any equivalence to an undergraduate or master's degree nor the recognition of that degree.

Observation: Regarding this course’s Evaluation System, the admission to the 2nd curricular year will depend on if an average classification of 14 points is obtained in the curricular units of the 1st year.

Required documentation

- Motivation letter explaining the candidate’s reasons for applying to the doctoral programme, if relevant, according to the criteria established by the organic unit you are applying for, not exceeding one page (MANDATORY);
- Workload and syllabuses of the curricular units concluded by the candidate, if accreditation is requested (MANDATORY, except for students holding a degree from the University of Coimbra);
- 2 letters of recommendation;
- University degree certification with the final classification, or certificate of qualifications for candidates under point c) (MANDATORY, except for students holding a degree from the University of Coimbra)
- master’s degree certification and other training courses, if applicable, with the course’s final classification (MANDATORY, except for students holding a degree from the University of Coimbra)
- Curriculum Vitae in EUROPASS format (  (MANDATORY;
- Diploma certifying fluency in English language (if applicable) or candidates statement regarding their English language skills, graded according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages- Europass (A1 a C2) (MANDATORY)
- Copy of the identification card (MANDATORY for International applicants);
- 2 publications (selected by the candidate), if applicable;
- Proposal of the thesis theme (of a maximum of 4 pages) (MANDATORY).

Observation: The submission of the certified original documents by 31 December is mandatory for accepted, registered and enrolled students, in order to formalize their individual processes.
The above-mentioned documents must be certified by the Portuguese local consular official and/or legalized by the apostille system, under the Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents (known as Hague Convention), signed in Hague on October 5th, 1961, except for documents issued by academic institutions from countries inside the European Union. However, in case of doubts on the submitted documentation, the above-mentioned certification may be requested, or additional documentation may be delivered to applicants.
Whenever the above-mentioned documents are written in a foreign language that not in Spanish, French or English, a translated version must be submitted. Translations shall be duly certified by the competent authorities for the purpose.

1. Academic Curriculum: Graduate Degree (weighting 5/20);
2. Academic Curriculum: Other academic training (weighting 2/20);
3. Academic Curriculum: Research project and publications (weighting 3/20);
4. Academic Curriculum: Foreign language(s) knowledge (weighting 1/20);
5. Founded thesis theme proposal (weighting 4/20);
6. Professional Curriculum: Assessment of professional merit (weighting 3/20);
7. Motivation (includes an interview, if necessary) (weighting 2/20).

Observation: The applications assessed with some criterion classification below 9,5 points will automatically render the application invalid.
