Who can apply

Applicants for admission to the PhD degree in Cultural Heritage of Portuguese Influence must be:

a) Holders of a master's degree or legal equivalent;

b) Holders of a bachelor's degree in any disciplinary field of Arts (including Architecture), Social Sciences and Humanities, holders of an academic or scientific CV especially relevant and recognized as attesting the necessary competences for the accomplishment of this cycle of studies by the Academic Board of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research;

c) Holders of a school, scientific or professional curriculum that is recognized as attesting the necessary competences to carry out this cycle of studies by the Academic Board of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research;

d) The assessment of candidates without a master's degree will be conducted in a particularly selective manner.

The recognition referred to in subparagraphs b) and c) of paragraph 1 only allows access to the cycle of studies leading to a PhD Degree and does not grant its holder the recognition or equivalence to a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree.

Required documentation

- Motivation letter, explaining the reasons that lead the candidate to apply, in case that is relevant to the criteria established by the Faculty they are applying to (MANDATORY)
- Course outlines and hourly course loads of previous courses, in case of equivalence credits request (MANDATORY, except in degrees awarded by a foreign institution according to the principles of the Bologna Process by a State compliant with this process - after 2007/2008)
- Diploma (bachelor or equivalent) with final classification. In case of equivalence credits request, a transcript detailing subjects studied (ECTS or hours) and grade per subject is required (MANDATORY, except in degrees obtained at the University of Coimbra)
- Certificate of Master's degree with final classification (diploma). In case of equivalence credits request, a transcript detailing subjects studied (ECTS or hours) and grade per subject is required (MANDATORY, except in degrees obtained at the University of Coimbra)
- Curriculum vitae, EuroPass format (MANDATORY)
- Copy of identification document (MANDATORY for international applicants only)

NOTE: Admitted candidates who register and enroll in the course are required to present the original documents until the 31st of December in order to complete their individual student file.
The documents mentioned above must be certified by the local Portuguese consulate and / or legalized by the Apostille system under the Convention on Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents (better known as the Hague Convention), signed at The Hague, October 5, 1961, with the exception of documents issued by countries of the European Union. However, in case of doubt about the documentation presented, the aforementioned certification or submission of additional documentation may be requested to any applicant.
If the abovementioned documents are in a foreign language other than Spanish, French or English, a translation is required. Translations must be duly certified by the competent authorities.

- Final grade of the Bachelor's degree (3/20 Weighting)
- Final grade of Master's degree and / or other academic qualifications (3/20 Weighting)
- Adequacy of the 1st and 2nd cycles courses to the requirements of the 3rd cycle course (3/20 Weighting)
- Publications / Research (3/20 Weighting)
- Language skills in Portuguese and English (1/20 Weighting)
- Professional curriculum, including international experience (3/20 Weighting)
- Profile and motivation of applicant (4/20 Weighting)

NOTE: Assessed applications that have a grade lower than 9.5 in one of the evaluation criteria will automatically become non-approved.

Information for candidates

- Application is subject to the payment of a fee in the amount of 50 euros, non-refundable, including in cases of invalidation of application, non-placement or when the study cycle does not open due to the lack of the minimum number of enrollees.
