Rui Aristides Lebre


Biography

(Born 1983) Architect graduated at the Department of Architecture of the University of Coimbra (2007). During the studies, participated in the direction and editing of the architecture magazine NU and also several student activities related with the architecture students association. Conducted a theoretical research on the social component of the project of architecture as a result of the attribution of a scholarship by the Ministry of International Relations of the Norwegian Government (2007-2008). Worked as a collaborator in the architecture offices of Atelier do Corvo (2004) and Fátima Martins Lda (2008-2012). Developed architecture projects in Burkina Fasso, in collaboration with the association Alizeta - Projetti Solidali Onlus (2007-2010). More recently collaborated in the exhibition "Fernando Távora - Permanent Modernity" (2012). Since 2015, editor-in-chief of the architecture magazine Morfema, dedicated to essays on space, architecture and territorial fabrication. Since May 2017 holder of a PhD in Architecture with the following research project "From the organization of space to the organization of society: a study of the political commitments in post-war Portuguese architecture, 1945-69" developed in the PhD program in architectural and urban culture of the Centre of Social Studies (CES) and Department of Architecture (D'Arq) of the University of Coimbra. Between May 2017 and October 2018 worked as researcher, together with Dr. Joana Gouveia Alves, in the project "100 anos de políticas públicas em Portugal, 1918/ 2018" coordinated by the Instituto da Habitação e Reabilitação Urbana (IHRU), as part of the research team coordinated by José António Bandeirinha and Tiago Castela. Since September 2017 has been teaching in the master degree in architecture of the University of Coimbra, as invited Assistant Professor, with teaching activities ranging the following modules: Projecto 1, Introdução à Arquitectura e Cidade I e II, Seminário de Investigação e Laboratório de Tese. Since May 2018 has been developing a postdoctoral research in the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra, with Tiago Castela and José António Bandeirinha, with the project "Architecture for a fifth empire: a discussion of Portuguese modernity through imperial formations, 1945-1974." His research interests involve the cultural history of spatial organization, the role of imperial formations in the creation, government and experience of modern spatialities, and the social-material agency of housing in the constitution of modern citizenships. His areas of interests range history and theory of architecture and planning, material anthropology and cultural geography.
