Juliana Graffunder Barbosa


Biography

Juliana Graffunder is a PhD candidate in International Relations - International Politics and Conflict Resolution at the Center for Social Sciences and the Faculty of Economics, University of Coimbra (Portugal). She investigates gender mainstreaming in the military, focused on representations and practices of masculinities in the case of the Portuguese troops. Her thesis development is supported by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology PhD Fellowship (PD/BD/150563/2019). She was an Assistant Professor of Contemporary International Politics, a public tender position, at the Faculty of Law and International Relations at the Federal University of Grande Dourados (Brazil). Also, her research on the use of force in United Nations peace operations received a Dissertation Award from the Brazillian Ministry of Defense. She holds a Master's Degree and a Bachelor's Degree in International Relations from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (Brazil) and the Federal University of Santa Maria (Brazil). Her formation includes exchange periods at the National University of Littoral (Argentina) and the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil). During her academic path, Juliana Graffunder was awarded merit scholarships from prestigious national and international foundations. She received research fellows from the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Brazil) and the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (Brazil), in addition to mobility grants from the Montevideo Group Universities Association (Uruguay) and National Association of Directors of Federal Higher Education Institutions (Brazil). Her current research area is Critical Security Studies and she is interested in topics such as militarisation, international interventions, gender studies, peace and violence.
