About

The current context of the secondary education reform in Brazil poses a challenge to a critical and emancipatory education of students. Disciplines such as sociology, philosophy and the arts are threatened in their regular offer, representing a setback regarding the contents of the field of human and social sciences in the school curriculum. In this sense, it is worth examining the current Brazilian debate in a comparative international perspective, considering the different political and educational positions about school and its social, cultural, economic and political function.
