Presentation and discussion of the results of the Project HOU$ING

Housing in Portugal

December 19, 2023, 14h00-18h00

Centro de Informação Urbana de Lisboa | CIUL

The right to adequate housing is inseparable from the right to life and forms the basis of other human rights, such as education or health. With more than half of the world's population living in urban areas, inequalities in access to housing are at the centre of the challenges faced by contemporary societies in achieving social inclusion, cohesion, full citizenship and healthy living.

The research project HOU$ING - Financialised housing in 21st century Portugal: Social representations, practices, and political stakes (EXPL/PSI-GER/0269/2021), carried out at the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra since January 2022, sought to study the relationship between the rise of financial markets, actors and motivations - in other words, financialisation - and access to housing, focusing on the analysis of social representations and practices associated with housing. An interdisciplinary and mixed methods approach was used to achieve the proposed objectives, analysing documents and social networks, interviews, questionnaires, and focus groups.

During this meeting, we will present the project's main results and promote discussion in a conversation open to sharing experiences and (re)building knowledge.

The meeting is aimed at all those interested in the subject, such as professionals, students, and researchers, and is open to the community in general.

This event has the support of the Lisbon City Council.
