Didactic Workshop
What is hidden in capulanas?
October 23 to 27, 2017, 10h30
Casa da Esquina (Coimbra)
Framework
Capulanas are more than coloured cloths. They are clothing, a mode of transport, an adornment, they support. And they are also a form of communication. Capulanas patterns contain more than geometric motifs. Many contain political messages, others display the rich diversity of living things that inhabit Africa.
In this workshop, we will look for these living beings and try to better understand them. We can ask many questions: What are they? What are their names? Where do they live? Who do they live with? What do they eat? Who do they play with?
Afterwards, inspired by the designs and colours of the capulanas, we will build a large mural with the landscapes and biodiversity of Mozambique.
