June 24, 2024, 18h00

Arpaz Auditorium (meeting point and car park at Barco Parish Council, Covilhã)

This roundtable addresses the conflicts and consequences of mining based on shared experiences between Brazil, Chile, and Portugal. The session will focus on discussing and exchanging life experiences between the communities of Serra do Salitre and Mariana in Brazil, the Chañaral community in Chile, and the Barco community in Portugal.

The roundtable includes a screening of a short documentary film and a presentation on the reality of mining communities, and, grounded on the realities found in these territories and people’s experiences, aims to gather common ground and perspectives to debate and build alliances.

Participants and organisers include representatives of the GPSA-Grupo pela Preservação da Serra da Argemela, representatives of the Serra Verde Movement, Ananda Martins Carvalho, Miguel Artur de Avila Carranza and Viliina Kaikkonen (Centre for Social Studies at the University of Coimbra), as part of the activities of the Ecology and Society Lab of the Centre for Social Studies (ECOSOC).
