Free seminar explains support for victims of Storm Kristin

The Legal and Judicial Training Unit of the Permanent Observatory for Justice (UNIFOJ-OPJ) of the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra expresses its solidarity with individuals, businesses, and municipalities affected by Storm Kristin and subsequent bad weather.

In this context, it is promoting a free online seminar on 9 March, from 10:00 to 12:00, aimed at clarifying the set of exceptional support measures applicable to the areas affected by the disaster situation. The session aims to provide a clear, structured, and operational overview of the support available and will be given by lawyers Afonso de Sousa Pina and Eduardo Castro Marques from Dower Law Firm.

The seminar will present the legal framework for the measures and their key principles, namely, coordination with insurance and the rule against duplicating support. Support for housing and rehousing will also be analysed, as will measures aimed at economic activity, including beneficiaries, eligible expenses, and forms of support such as grants and credit instruments.
The session will also address application procedures, deadlines, beneficiaries’ obligations and control mechanisms. Attention will also be given to labour and contribution measures, with an emphasis on simplified lay-offs, IEFP incentives, and contribution exemption schemes, clarifying the conditions of access and the practical implications.

The initiative is aimed at anyone interested in learning about the support available to address the damage caused by recent bad weather.
